Faces of Internet Addictions

It is a perfect example or irony, internet which has made our lives so simple and bought so many changes in way the world functions is also causing addiction among the users of internet. When a person stays online for hours together, does not have a real life and performs his day to day activities sitting in front computer logged on to internet is someone we call internet addict. Now internet addiction if fairly new and people in the age group of 8 to 35 are the most prone to get addicted to internet.

So what is so special about internet that it is forcing people to abandon real lives and adopt virtual ones? This article will try to elaborate various such reasons.

Can you tell the average age of a gamer? You will be shocked to know that it is 28. Increasing bandwidth power now has enabled people to play games online. Multiplayer online games have become so advanced that a person can virtually lead a normal life online. An internet addict will just log on to one of the game, where he owns a house, has a job, has a family, has a social life, possibly everything a person would have or do in normal life. This is the reason why people become internet addicts because of games and leads to many internet addiction disorders.

Leading a virtual life is one of the reasons for internet addiction, but there are other types of games which are also responsible for internet addiction. The social structure of our society has developed in such a way that people seldom find time to meet each other. Kids are no exceptions. The moment they step into their homes, they just log on to their computer and start chatting with their buddies online, who may or may not be the people they are posing as.

The biggest advantage or disadvantage of internet is a person can stay virtually faceless here. This is the reason why people who have no normal social life are turning towards internet and becoming internet addicts. A guy with low self esteem can have number of girl-friends over internet, something which is not possible in real life. A person can log on to internet and chat with his online friends for hours together. No doubt this has led many people to meet their friends in real life, but that seldom happens.

Addictions in any form are bad and internet addiction is not an exception. It is snatching away real social life from people. If the number of internet addicts keeps on increasing, the day would not be far when we all will be leading all our lives online, virtually.
